ROOT CANAL TREATMENTS

Dr. Jaspreet Kaur at Bliss Dental

Root canal is a recommended treatment option if you have a deep cavity, an infection to the root, any trauma to the nerve or a decay that has penetrated the outer layers of your teeth. A root canal is like a filling, except the filling progresses all the way down into the tooth’s roots. Once you are comfortably anaesthetized, we access the tooth just as we would for a filling. We then proceed to remove the affected nerve tissue, clean and disinfect the tooth, fill the space with a root canal filling material and finally cover it with a filling. It is often recommended to cover a root-canal treated tooth with a crown in order to prevent the tooth from fracturing in the future. The treatment may take a few sittings depending on the nature of issue. Follow-up preventive care appointments are recommended post-treatment to maintain the oral hygiene and properly maintain the treated tooth.

COMPLETE AND PARTIAL DENTURES

We can replace some or all of your missing teeth, depending on your needs. There are many reasons why people lose their teeth and require dentures: infrequent dental visits, accidents, lack of oral care, tobacco use, acid reflux, advanced age, and more. We can assess if complete or partial dentures might be the right choice for you.

VENEERS

A dental veneer is an aesthetic treatment option that helps to improve the colour and shape of your teeth. It is an ultra-thin shell of tooth-colored porcelain or composite that is cemented over the facial surfaces of your teeth to correct dental issues including worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, tooth discoloration, and chips or cracks.

TOOTH COLOURED RESTORATIONS

A preferred way of filling cavities, decay or broken is to use a strong composite resin that looks more like your tooth. To place this filling, we clean all the decay from the tooth and put a glue (or bonding material) on the inside of the tooth. Composite resin is put in thin layers. Each layer gets hard with the help of a special curing light. When the last layer of the filling is hard, we shape the filling so it looks and feels natural.

SIMPLE AND SURGICAL EXTRACTIONS

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, we will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other dental treatment. But when there's too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, the tooth may need to be extracted or removed.
There are two types of extractions:
(a) simple extractions are done on teeth that can be seen in the mouth. We loosen and remove the tooth;
(b) surgical extraction are a bit more extensive mostly used to surgically remove any tooth that is broken at the gum line or not fully erupted in the mouth

TEETH WHITENING

Certain foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, and wine can cause teeth to become discolored. Teeth whitening restores natural color of your teeth and enhances your smile through use of non-invasive techniques. Everyone responds differently to whitening procedures. We offer many ways to brighten your smile and help determine recommended whitening techniques customized for your oral health.

CROWNS AND BRIDGES

A crown is a tooth-shaped cover that is placed over a broken, cracked or damaged tooth. It is used to strengthen the damaged tooth and restore its original function and esthetics. There are several materials that can be used to fabricate a crown like porcelain, gold and other metal alloys. We discuss all the options and guide our patients to choose the best material as per their needs.

Various reasons when a crown is recommended:

  • To replace large filings
  • Severely weakened teeth
  • Restoring fractured/cracked teeth
  • Attaching a bridge
  • Covering discoloured or misshaped teeth
  • Root canal treated teeth
  • Cover a dental implant

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic appliance which may be recommended if you are missing one or more teeth. A bridge consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth. As with the crowns, there is a choice of materials for bridges as well.

Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need to be replaced or be re-cemented due to normal wear. The most important step you can take to ensure the longevity of crowns and bridges is to practice good oral hygiene and visit your dentist and hygienist for regular checkups and professional cleaning.

Reasons for a fixed bridge:

  • Fill the space created by missing teeth.
  • Provide facial support.
  • Prevent unwanted movement of remaining teeth
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.
  • Restore your smile.
  • Prevention of gum disease.
